Violence against Women in Nepal: a Social Challenge

Abstract

Violence against women has become the burning issue around the globe that is affecting the women and girls in all context and all age groups. In this contemporary time, the violence against women especially domestic violence and sexual violence as well as socio cultural violence are prevailing in Nepalese societies. The rape cases are increasing in Nepal and the child girls are mostly affected psychologically and physically. The other violence are affecting the women’s dignity, identity physically and emotionally, through this study, I, as a researcher tried to explore the social, cultural factors of violence and the perpetrators of the violence against women and girls, which is challenging the social norms and ideologies and making vulnerable and weak in every aspects of life in Nepalese societies with the help of data collected by the Government of Nepal and other non governmental organizations. Based on the research, I have given some recommendations to the members of politics, society and the policy/law makers to prevent and reduce the risk of violence against women and girls of Nepal addressing the equal access to education, equal right, proper implementation of law and empower women through skillful trainings and awareness for the justice of the victims and survivors.
